snow & gloved mutton

it snowed today. i didn't even realize until i stepped outside for my freezing-fifty-step commute to work. I looked out the window later in the day and counted 23 people sweeping snow off the driveway in front of the building. I guess like India there is always cheap labor. in the US it would have been 1 guy with a snow plow.

people sleep freely at the office. after lunch you can walk around the building and see many people passed out. some lean back, some put their heads down on their desk. either way, it's totally acceptable.

i went to lunch with a couple coworkers. one of them is apparently Muslim which I never would have guessed. each table at the restaurant had a gas stove built in to the center. they brought out a big bowl of mutton in water/stew and threw it on the flame. we then tossed in some vegetables and meatballs we'd ordered. since the mutton is on the bone you can't really eat it with chopsticks so they give you a plastic glove. when it's hot out of the bowl you just lean down and take bites right off the plate. then when it cools you can use your gloved hand to pick the rest of the meat off the bone.
