What's the deal..

Yesterday wasn't my only encounter with long fingernails -- I've seen them on other men and today I found out why. Apparently being able to have long fingernails is an indication that you are not a laborer. It is a sign of wealth and prosperity. Similarly the Chinese typically don't finish every last grain of rice to symbolize that they don't need to (convenient because finishing every last grain can be a pain when using chopsticks)
"What is the deal with the Chinese and chopsticks? They've seen the new technology and even acknowledged its superiority. You don't see Chinese farmers in fields moving a bunch of hay around with two pool queues, do you?" - Jerry Seinfeld
